Lottery Wheeling Software

The following describes the lottery wheeling software and how lottery wheels can be created and used when playing the lottery.

What is a Lottery Wheel

A lottery wheel (or sometimes called a permutation) is a pattern or template that offers a certain guarantee based on certain conditions. Lottery wheels can further be defined as FULL or ABBREVIATED.

Full Lottery Wheels

A full lottery wheel is one which offers a jackpot win if all the numbers chosen in a set are drawn.

For example, you could produce a full lottery wheel for the whole set of lottery numbers in a 6/49 game and say that if you played this wheel you would win the jackpot. The only drawback to such a lottery wheel is that its cost would probably be more than you would win. Taking a 6/49 game, to cover every possible draw would mean submitting about 14 million entries.

To make the entry cost more reasonable, full lottery wheels are offered that cover a smaller group of numbers. Once again taking a 6/49 game, a lottery wheel can be made that will guarantee a jackpot win if any 6 numbers are drawn from a set of 8 numbers. This lottery wheel requires 28 entries to guarantee the cover. Then if any 6 of your 8 selections are drawn you will win 6/6 (that is the current game jackpot). Such a lottery wheel looks like:

01 02 03 04 05 06
01 02 03 04 05 07
01 02 03 04 05 08

If you notice no matter what the actual draw is, if any 6 of the 8 numbers are drawn you will have one line that contains all 6 numbers.

The only drawback of full lottery wheels is the cost of cover (which goes up exponentially as the number of balls increases). The good thing about a full lottery wheel is that if a high proportion of your chosen balls are actually drawn then you will tend to get lots of high wins even if the jackpot is not included. For example, if your chosen group are the numbers 1 to 8 and the draw is 1,2,3,4,5,30 you will not win the jackpot, but you will have a win on every line of your entry.

In the above example, a full wheel comprising any set of numbers can be made by substitution. So you could for example use 10,13,25,38,40,42,43,49 and then just substitute 10 for 1, 2 for 13 etc.

Abbreviated Lottery Wheels

These are similar to full lottery wheels but do not offer a jackpot guarantee, but instead offer guarantees for smaller wins. The main advantage of an abbreviated wheel is that you get to select a larger group of balls and the entry cost is lower. For example, in a 6/49 game, using 8 balls once again for our set, the following lottery wheel can be created.

01 02 03 05 07 08
01 02 04 06 07 08
01 03 04 05 06 08
02 03 04 05 06 07

Once again 8 numbers are used but the guarantee is now that if any 6 balls are drawn form the group of 8, you are only guaranteed to get a match five ball win. The big advantage is that the entry now only comprises 4 entries instead of the 28 as in the full lottery wheel example.

Try it for yourself - make up a draw that uses the numbers 1-8 and at least one of the above 4 lines will contain at a match 5 hit.

Lottery wheels are very good if you are fortunate enough to select a group of numbers that most are actually drawn. This will usually result in lots of wins of varying amounts on most or all lines. The drawback is that the entry cost tends to get high the bigger the group of numbers and the higher the guarantee.

So is a lottery wheel comprising 20 entries better than just 20 random entries? The answer to this, is no. What would actually happen if you played wheels instead of just random entries is that you would have large gaps when you win nothing interspaced with occasions when you would win large amounts as opposed to more evenly spaced returns.

The real key as always is choosing the numbers in the first place.

Lottery Wheels provided by the Software

Each lottery program is supplied with lotto wheels that have been selected that offer guaranteed wins at the minimum cost. The software can be used to either select suggested numbers for the lotto wheels or you can use your own ball number set and the software will create the wheels for you.

Some of the wheels supplied are:

Creating Lottery Wheels

Many of the programs also allow you to import entries from simple txt files so that you can use the program to check results against the draws etc. This allows you to import lotto wheeled entries created by other means if required. Also, if you have a lottery wheel definition file in the format NN NN etc with preceding zeros and a .txt file extension (just rename if necessary) you can use the following utility to create wheeled txt file entry that you can then import into the lotto programs. For example, the following wheel definition: wheel1.txt is a typical 26 pick 5 number wheel that can be found on the web.

Using the lottery wheeling utility it scans the definition file and presents 26 entry boxes for you to supply your chosen numbers as follows:

Lottery Wheeling Screen

Note that the above utility requires installation of a lotto program from this site or it may fail to run.

Just enter your numbers, and if you are playing a game like Powerball you will need to add the Powerball to the wheeled entries. You can select Random or Serial (Serial just starts at 1 and goes to the maximum value and then restarts). If it is just a Pick 5 game with no extra ball then select the No Extra Ball option.

Just enter the file name you want to save and Click Save. The wheeled entry file can then be imported using the import txt option on any of the programs.

Note: the lottery software has the most cost-effective and most popular used lotto wheels already built in.
